Hoopla Hoop

Searching for a way to combine my love of cities and content production, I joined the Hoopla Hoop to share the places and things that inspire me in New York City.

I am currently writing features on music, fashion, culture, and tech in the City.

When I’m not producing content, I’m scheming strategies to connect with our target communities on Facebook, Twitter, and Foursquare.

nyPhone

IMG_0004In partnership with my sister Joy, I am documenting life in New York City via the iPhone.

NyPhone started as a Facebook Mobile album, but then evolved into a photoblog for us to share our explorations of NYC.

We chose the iPhone as our medium because of its simplicity, mobility, speed, and uploadability. It offers real-time updates of our impressions of the city.

We offer two contrasting perspectives. Joy — the six-year NYC veteran. Melissa — the recent NYC import.

The Moleskine: A Guide to Grad School

dscn30641During my master’s in Edinburgh, I blogged about my experience as an international postgraduate in the United Kingdom for The Moleskine, an insider guide to graduate school sponsored by Idealist.org. I wrote bi-weekly entries on applications, gigs and shows, British English, visas, and other topics pertinent to prospective and current international students.

I also hosted, recorded, and edited a quarterly podcast where I interviewed students and staff at the University of Edinburgh about graduate school in the UK.
